Choosing the right saw band

Three factors are decisive:

• Band material: Bi-metal bands are the all-rounder for steel and stainless steel; HSS and carbide-tipped bands deliver long service life and handle hard-to-machine materials.
• Tooth pitch: coarse pitch for solid material, fine pitch for thin-walled profiles and tubes. Rule of thumb: at least three teeth in engagement.
• Band dimensions: length, width and thickness must match your machine exactly.

When should you change the saw band?

Replace the band when cutting times increase, the cut surface becomes rough, or the band starts to drift. Changing it in good time protects the machine and ensures clean cuts.

Tips for a long service life

• Break in a new band carefully (reduced feed rate).
• Choose the cutting speed to suit the material.
• Provide sufficient cooling and lubrication.
• Check the band tension regularly.
